When to change your filter

The experts say that you should change your filter roughly every 1-3 months, which is a pretty big window. Speaking of windows if you keep your windows open or closed also factors into when you should change your filter.

We all know why we change filters, but just as a reminder:

  • Furnace efficiency - Your furnace doesn't have to work as hard to push air through, which leads to...
  • Cost savings - Less energy all around brings your bills down, so maybe you can add a degree or two when you're cold without your house's thermostat administrator (Every household has one!) blowing a gasket. 
  • Better Air Quality - If more clean air is getting through and less dust is settling, everyone can breath better.

So, how can you tell when "it's time"? It's been 30 days for me, and we've had our windows shut for all 30 of them, because: Ohio weather. We also have two dogs and dogsat a third for a week.
