Can you believe we're already 5 months into 2019? We're about to enter the hottest months of the year, so now would be a great time to change your filter before your AC has to work too hard.
Speaking of your AC, it's been a couple of years, so we wanted to remind you this would be a great time to check out your AC unit for any debris or plant life that might have grown up around your unit. (Make sure your power is off before messing around with your AC unit, of course! Then spray the unit down with your garden hose to get the dust and dirt off, taking the time to straighten any fins that might be bent.
Another thing to check for might be a rabbit or chipmunk nest digging underneath your unit. While this might not cause your AC unit to malfunction or create any mechanical issues, it's still good to check. I discovered my neighbor's house had a chipmunk nest by my dog freaking out and getting caught in my blinds and breaking them. So, there are always other issues that can pop up. Sidenote: replacing blinds is expensive. We wish they were as inexpensive as our filters.
If you've done maintenance before and feel comfortable with it, you can clean the evaporator coil and the drain, but if not, just replace your filter and relax.
